FIBREX Medical

PRODUCT PIPELINE

FIBREX Medical is building an attractive pipeline of peptides interfering with leukocyte transmigration (status January 2009).

Product pipeline / phases

FIBREX Medical´s most advanced product is a formulation of the peptide with the code name FX06MRI, intended for the treatment of reperfusion injury after revascularisation treatment for myocardial infarction.

FX06 reduces infarct size in predictive animal models by a mean of 50%. Preclinical development has been completed. The product is very well tolerated up to very high doses. Fibrex has recently completed a phase II trial in patients with acute myocardial infarction undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention in a proof of concept phase II trial (the F.I.R.E. study). Results from this trial have been reported at the recent congress of the European Society of Cardiology in Munich (for details see www.fibrexmedical.com/news_1.html#030908). These results point to a cardio-protective effect of FX06, encouraging further clinical development of this highly promising compound.

Studies to evaluate the usefulness of FX06 in other disease conditions where the transmigration and vasculoprotective mechanism demonstrated by FIBREX Medical is deemed to play an important role, e.g. in transplantation, trauma/hemorrhagic shock and sepsis/septic shock, have delivered very encouraging results. Plans are currently underway to develop FX06 or its analogs in these diseases with very high medical need. FX201 for the prevention of delayed graft function and FX107, a long-acting derivative for sepsis/septic shock and Dengue shock syndrome are in preclinical development.
